All motor vehicles are subject to a taxation by the UK authorities to be allowed to run.

The V10 form allows you to apply for vehicle tax, in case you do not have received a reminder from the DVLA inviting to apply for vehicle tax.

You may also use the V10 to tax your vehicle during a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN).

What is a v10 form?

The v10 form is the official DVLA document used by the UK drivers to tax their vehicles. Along with insurance, taxing your vehicle is a legal obligation in order to be allowed to drive on the United Kingdom roads.

Where do I get a DVLA v10 form?

You can choose to go to one of the DVLA centres that can be found across the UK, and get there a paper version of the v10 form. However, the easiest way to get a v10 form is to download it from out website under the PDF format. Then you can fill it online if you have a PDF filler tool on your computer. Otherwise, you can print your v10 form and fill it with a pen.

When should I use a DVLA V10 form?

You should only use the official V10 form in a few situations such as:

  • a change in vehicle's details (for instance tax class if you are disabled);
  • a break in vehicle's taxing;
  • a need to tax a vehicle during a SORN (and you haven't received the V11 reminder).

You must send it to the appropriate DVLA address together with your V5C and insurance certificate.

You will find above a free online version of the V10 form. You can download, print and fill it and then send it by post to the DVLA together with the appropriate tax rate payment.

How to fill in a v10 form of the DVLA?

The v10 form basically includes three sections that you will need to complete for a valid vehicle tax application:

Which documents do I have to produce along with my v10 form?

Along with your v10 form, you need to produce an array of documents to the DVLA in order to tax your car. This list includes:

  • Your V5C registration certificate (also called 'green slip' or new keeper slip)
  • Your last valid MoT Certificate
  • If applying for a tax exemption: a valid 'Vehicle tax exemption certificate'

If you are not able to produce all these documents, it is likely that the DVLA will reject your v10 application.

When you are sure you have properly completed your v10 form, you can send it with all the requested document to the DVLA post address:

How long does it take for my v10 form to be processed?

Under normal circumstances, after your send you v10 form tp the DVLA, it usually take a few days until your vehicle tax is registered. However, when the DVLA services are very busy, it happens that you receive your notification only two weeks after sending the v10 application.

How do I get free car tax?

In certain situation, some drivers can be exempted for taxing their cars. To be eligible to car tax exemption, you have to present one of the 4 following justifications:

  • An Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
  • An Enhanced Rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • A War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement.
  • A Higher Rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
