You will have to use the V890 form when declaring to the DVLA services that your motor vehicle is temporarily out of use. Why one should do that ? When you will have registered your Statuary Off Road Notification (SORN) to the authorities, you will be exempt from paying tax on your vehicle that is no more in use.

Good to know

This form is the official document to declare a SORN

What does statutory off road notification mean?

A SORN is a notification you send to the DVLA through the V890 form. It notifies the administration that you are taking your motor vehicle off the road. The SORN lasts until you register your vehicle again to the DVLA, which should be done through the v62 form.

When does my SORN declaration take effect?

When making a SORN to the DVLA through the v890 form online, you have two options. First you can make it start as soon as the administration is notified. Second, you can make it start the first day of the following month.

Can I get a V890 form online?

Since about a decade, the DVLA documents are available online. HelloSafe proposes a download version of the official v890 form, that you can print as many times as you wish. However, it is still not possible to send the v890 form by email. To complete your SORN, you will therefore have to send your completed document to the DVLA in Swansea.
