Who can claim for maternity allowance?

You can claim for Maternity Allowance if you are expecting a baby and you are:

  • employed but you are not entitled to get Statutory Maternity Pay, or
  • self-employed, or
  • not employed, or
  • an agency worker.

What documents to send with your MA1 form?

You will need to send, together with your Maternity Allowance Claim Form:

  • the proof that you are not entitled to get Statutory Maternity Pay if you are employed (SMP1 form)
  • the baby's due date certificate
  • your payslips.
