The PIP form is to be used for claiming Personal Independence Payment to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) of the UK administration. Here we provide guidance to go through the process of applying to PIP and filling in your PIP form.

What is Personal Independent Payment (PIP)?
The Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a financial help provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to relieve people suffering from long-term disabilities or illness of certain extra costs incurred by their health condition.
Who is eligible to PIP?
There are several conditions to be eligible to PIP:
- You must be aged 16 or over
- Your health condition must have caused you problems with daily living or mobility for at least three consecutive months
- Those problems are likely to continue in the 9 coming months
- You must have lived in England, Scotland or Wales for the last 3 years (or at least 2)
Good to know
Please note that PIP can not be cumulated with Armed Forces Independence Payment.
How is the PIP help calculated?
First of all, there is no working condition to receive the PIP. It means that can receive the PIP help whilst working at the time. The PIP amount you will be eligible to will depend on an assessment of your situation that is made though the DWP, and which determines the level of help you need. You will therefore have a rate, which will be regularly reviewed over time.
How much PIP help will I receive?
Depending on your assessment and your rate, you get from £23.60 up to £151.40 per week when you are eligible to PIP. Basically, PIP is made of two categories:

PIP is normally paid every 4 weeks.
How to apply to PIP?
There are basically two ways for claiming PIP to the DWP.
Claim PIP by telephone or textphone
You can claim PIP REACHING the DWP PIP claim services by phone or textphone at the following numbers:
- Telephone: 0800 917 2222
- Textphone: 0800 917 7777
- Relay UK (if you cannot hear or speak on the phone): 18001 and then 0800 917 2222
- Calling from abroad: +44 191 218 7766
The PIP claims services receive phone calls from Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm).
Claim PIP by post through the PIP claim form
If you wish to apply to PIP through the official PIP claim form (see specimen above), you will have to ask for the Personal Independence Payment New Claims service to send you the PIP form. For this, you can to send a letter indicating your personal address and information at this address:

Once you've filled in your PIP form, you have to send it back to this same address. Please note that claiming PIP by post my delay your process.
Can I download a PIP form online?
The UK government informs on its website dedicated to PIP that there is no online PIP form to be downloaded. Please be careful that the form that we display on this page is only a specimen, and can not be use to apply to PIP. Indeed, the only way to get a PIP form is to send a letter at the address detailed in the previous section.
What happens after I send my PIP form?
The DWP will carefully review you PIP form. If you are to be eligible to PIP, you will receive by post the 'How your disability affects you' form (also sometimes referred as PIP2 form). You'll normally receive with it an Information Booklet that contains guidance to fill in the PIP2.
You have 28 days to return to the DWP this PIP2 form (the address is indicated on the form - see specimen below). You should provide throughout the form the most accurate information concerning your illness or disability, so that the DWP can assess your situation the best. If it is confirmed that you are eligible to PIP, you'll get another letter, with the following indications:
- Your rate - and the amount you'll get every week
- The first day you will be paid
- The date of the next review of your situation
What is the difference between PIP and DLA
PIP is progressively substituting itself to the Disability Living Allowance (DLA). As of 2020, people aged 16 to 64 are no more eligible to DLA - but only to PIP. People that were born on or before 8 April 1948 or under 16 can still be eligible to DLA if they already have an existing claim on. However, these people will progressively be invited to switch to PIP.
Is the PIP claim process equal in all the UK?
No. The here-described PIP claim process applies for England, Wales and Scotland. For people living in Northern Ireland, the process for claiming PIP is slightly different. Details can be found on the Northern Ireland government website, clicking here.
